Guam EPA to host 27th Pacific Islands Environment Conference in June
May 31, 2013 – The Guam Environmental Protection Agency (Guam EPA) announced today it will be hosting the 27th Pacific Islands Environment Conference (PIEC) from June 26 to June 28 at the Hyatt Regency Guam.
The PIEC is coordinated jointly by Guam EPA, the CNMI Division of Environmental Quality and the American Samoa EPA. The conferences is hosted every two years by an American territory in the Pacific. This year, the PIEC will feature several eminent guest speakers including the Secretary of the Department of the Environment and Natural Resources from the Republic of the Philippines and Professor Gil Masters of Stanford University.
“The focus of the conference is to bring regional natural resource managers together to learn about topics that affect all jurisdictions in the Pacific region,” said Administrator Eric M. Palacios. “The conference will feature important presentations that can help educate and inform natural resource managers. The PIEC is also a great way to connect islands throughout the Pacific and spark discussion about environmental protection, methods and advancements .”
The PIEC coincides with Guam EPA’s 40th anniversary celebrations throughout 2013.
Registration for the PIEC is open to the public and costs $40. For more information about how to register visit www.regonline.com/PIEC2013. The conference registration site includes information about field trips, educational opportunities and pre-conference events like the Coral Reef Symposium.
